Following the cuccess of the trial workshop last September, a further series of Safe Urban Driving (Be Cyclist Aware) workshops are to be held,  helping drivers of goods vehicles and buses to understand the perspective of cyclists.  The courses have been organised as part of the Go Smarter to Work programme.

With cycling levels rising across Tyne and Wear and ambitious plans for further growth, it is important for drivers of larger vehicles to address the needs of vulnerable road users, such as cyclists, with whom they share road space.

The workshops are Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) accredited so they can make a valuable contribution to helping freight drivers achieve their mandatory CPC requirements.

The content of each free one day workshop comprises a 3.5 hour classroom session which outlines the potential hazards involving vulnerable road users, with the rest of the day comprising a practical cycling session on urban roads.

Up to 20 people can be accommodated on each course and there will be a series of courses during 2014/15.  The first four courses scheduled are on the following dates:

June 3rd 2014

 June 11th 2014

July 2nd 2014

July 9th 2014

Further courses will take place depending on demand.

The venue for the courses is:

AG Barr, Benfield Rd, Walkergate, Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne & Wear, NE6 5XA
